Mommy and Me Session

Yesterday I had the great pleasure to take my camera out to my friend Shelby’s house and capture her and her sweet, cuddly son, Isaac. ♥ When I got there, he was napping (God, how I miss those days!) so we had some time to kill. To do so, Shelby shared with me her teeny-tiny 6 week old kittens! She’s got an orange female who (only a few weeks after her son was born) spawned 4 little tiny orange kittens! Let me tell you, there was so much baby-cuteness yesterday, I almost didn’t know what to do with myself! Here are (some of) the results of my Mommy and Me shoot with Shelby and Isaac! ♥

Before you were conceived,

I wanted you.

Before you were born,

I loved you.

Before you were here an hour,

I would give my life for you.

This is the miracle of life.

Monday Morning Mumbles…

((Beware, I am only about half awake at this moment, so I can’t promise my ramblings will make sense))

I’m only half awake here as my little human’s run amuck. They’re still wound from all the Easter treats/candy yesterday, I think. I swear, yeterday they each consumed more candy than they’ve ever had in their whole lives! Our bunnies have officially been named now; Toes’ is called Cherry, and Amelia-mazing’s (MALE) bunny is called “Princess Lily Sparkles”.

What a wonderful day.

I am shooting with a friends daughter today; it’s looking like a beautiful day for it! The sun is starting to peek out and it’s already getting warm(er) out there….so excited for this; Em is totally not your typical, ordinary girl; she’s original and full of color and personality, and I can’t wait to try to translate that to film. 🙂

I have no idea what I’m going to make for dinner later….I am torn on that; yesterday my Mother-In-Law made a 12 lb. ham for 5 people (2 of them being very small children), and now I have a foil-covered-ham-mountain in my fridge. Do we work on that, or try something else today; you know, since we just had ham yesterday?

My friend Shawna is in labor (I believe) as I speak, so I’m going to have a new little human to love on pretty soon! ♥ and you’d better believe I’m PSYCHED about it! This little one has been a long time coming, and I’m going to be taking her newborn pictures. Can. Not. Wait.

Happy Monday!

Amelia-mazing….in Black and White

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder/ You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger/ May you never take one single breath for granted./ God forbid love ever leave you empty handed..

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean./ Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens./ Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance,/ And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
I hope you dance…

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance,/ Never settle for the path of least resistance./ Livin’ might mean takin’ chances, but they’re worth takin’,/ Lovin’ might be a mistake but it’s worth makin’,

Don’t let some hell bent heart leave you bitter,/ When you come close to sellin’ out reconsider./ Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance,/ And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance,
I hope you dance.

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,/ Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens./ Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance,/ And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

Dance….I hope you dance.

Drama, Drama, Drama!

This week’s challenge at I ♥ faces is “Dramatic Black and White”, and if you have a daughter, you’re well aware just how much drama they bring into your life! Mine is 5 years old, and most likely a super-hero(!) She is always full of drama, and getting her to play model for me is usually a huge struggle. The other day I finally begged and pleaded enough to get her to agree, and promised a fun location to boot! Off we went to the beach, where she cooperated for about 3 minutes, then wanted to run and play and throw rocks. Now, I love that part of her, but I had a very specific vision in mind for this shoot…needless to say I only partially captured it. I’m sure you’ll all agree that just the look on my Amelia-mazing’s face makes this picture ‘moody’, but I also love all the different shades of gray in this image, and the way her face is shadowed by the hat.

Fun with Toes!

And by toes, I do not mean the ones on your feet! Today my sweet little Toes was actually enthusiastic about me ‘cheesing’ him. ♥ He saw me packing up my camera to get outside and shoot for a while, and he immediately ran to his dad and told him “You lift me up, she’ll cheese us!” Since his standard response to my camera is something along the lines of ‘Don’t cheese me momma!’ with his arms crossed, and the mad face and everything, I took this chance while I could get it! Without further adu, here is my sweet boy seeing, hearing, and speaking no evil! ♥

What’s my angle?

I’ve been asking myself this question for the past couple of days, all the while trying to catch my kids with a natural smile on their faces. (Yeah, right!) Anyway, as I searched and searched through my lens for a great angle, I finally realized that maybe I was going about this the wrong way. Maybe what I needed most was a still model that I could move around. With that in mind, I give you the guy my son calls the ‘Bouncy Dragon’ every time we pass. Now, I’m not entirely sure that he doesn’t have a name of his own, but I am so intrigued by him. *And it’s not just him….there are many, many amazing creations by this sculptor, all from what most would consider ‘trash’. I’m guessing that this guy is soddered together from wheel-springs and a plethora of other ‘found’ objects.*

All that said, here is my entry for this week’s theme at I ♥ faces; “Focusing on Angles”

? Bundled Up ?

This week at I ♥ faces, the theme is Bundled up. When I read that the other day, I immediately thought of this shot. Last month we had some really nasty, bitter cold weather. After nearly 2 weeks of that, we had a few nice days (meaning it was in the high 20’s and not so terribly windy). We celebrated by going out to the lake so the kids could get a chance to try out some ice! My daughter handled it like a pro, but my poor boy! Imagine, if you will, how Bambi looks the first time he gets on the ice….that was poor Toes. FINALLY, with Daddy’s help, he found his feet for a moment, and that moment was perfect! ♥

Also? Just in case you’re curious…yes, he actually has a mohawk under the mohawk hat. ♥

Just sayin’…

Today I am sick. I woke up this morning, super-duper early, might I add, and had to literally jump and RUN for the bathroom. Once that pleasant start to my day was done, I crawled back into bed where I’ve spent roughly the last 14 hours….no pictures today. I suck. Just sayin’….

Also? Yesterday’s pictures never went up (obviously)…when I got home from work last night I got busy working on the pictures for my galleries on my (soon to be up) website….when I finally tore my way away from that, i fell into bed, exhausted, where I did not move until my wonderful ‘wake up’ this morning.

I promise, I will get to it in the next day or two…we’ll see how I’m feeling in the morning…(again) just sayin’….

The View From Up Here…

Today I was lucky enough to have a BEAUTIFUL, wonderful day. The kids and I got to go out and play at the playground, and then my amazing, fabulous husband didn’t even mind when I dropped he and the kids off at home and took an hour (or so) to go shoot some pictures. Tonight, just add the cherry to the proverbial sundae of the day, we had the most gorgeous sunset! Here are my favorite moments of tonight’s shoot. I hope you all enjoy the ‘view from up here’!

When I first stopped, I decided to climb the snowbank so that I could get some shots of the falling sun setting the trees on fire…

Then I shifted position to be able to capture the contrast in colors between the deep blue and the bright orange and the streaks of clouds.
